5 Easy Tips for Great Oral Care
5 Easy Tips for Great Oral Care
#1 – Brush at least twice daily
Almost everyone knows they should brush at least twice daily. At the bare minimum, before bed and when you wake up each day. In a perfect world, people should be brushed after each meal and again before bed. When we don’t brush properly, plaque can build up on teeth and lead to tooth decay. Brushing regularly prevents cavities. Don’t forget to brush your tongue too.
#2 – Use a good fluoride toothpaste
Use a good fluoride toothpaste recommended by your dentist or the American Dental Association (ADA). Fluoride adds an extra layer of protection for your teeth against tooth decay and cavities. It helps to fight the germs and bacteria that cause decay and provides a protective barrier for your teeth. Add a fluoride mouthwash to your brushing and flossing for even more protection.
#3 – Floss regularly and thoroughly.
Flossing removes food particles between your teeth and at the gum line that your toothbrush misses. Consider using a pre-threaded floss pick or a water-flossing device if you have trouble with ordinary string or tape floss. Leaving food particles between teeth can lead to tooth decay, gingivitis, and periodontal disease.
#4 – Limit acidic foods and drinks
Acidic foods and drinks attack and weaken tooth enamel, which can lead to additional problems. If you do eat acidic things (they taste good, we get it), rinse your mouth thoroughly with plain water afterward and brush at your earliest opportunity.
#5 – Eat crunchy foods and veggies.
When you eat crunchy foods, you strengthen your jaw through exercise. While this may not make sense, it can have an impact on your overall health. With a strong jaw and healthy teeth, you will be able to feed your body all the nutrients you need to stay at the top of your game.
